Setting Up Your Profile

Creating a Complete Profile

A well-crafted profile helps you connect with the right collaborators:

  1. Navigate to Profile from the sidebar.
  2. Add a bio that describes who you are and what you’re looking for.
  3. Include social links (Twitter, LinkedIn, GitHub, etc.) so others can learn more about you.
  4. Upload a profile photo to make your profile more personal.

Complete profiles get more engagement and better collaboration matches.

Adding Your Skills

Showcase your expertise to attract relevant opportunities:

  1. In your Profile, find the Skills section.
  2. Click Add Skill to add new skills.
  3. Choose a skill type (Technical, Design, Marketing, etc.).
  4. Rate your proficiency level.

Your skills help the Match algorithm connect you with complementary collaborators.

Co-founder Preferences

Let others know you’re open to partnerships:

  • Enable Looking for Co-founder to signal you’re actively seeking partners.
  • Set Available for Projects if you’re open to joining existing teams.
  • Specify Preferred Roles to indicate how you’d like to contribute.

These settings appear on your public profile and influence your Match recommendations.

Managing Security

Keep your account secure:

  1. Navigate to Settings from the sidebar.
  2. Go to the Security section.
  3. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for extra protection.
  4. Review your active sessions and sign out of any you don’t recognize.

We recommend enabling 2FA, especially if you use IdeaBase for sensitive business ideas.

API Key Management

For developers and integrations:

  1. Go to Profile > API Keys.
  2. Click Create API Key and give it a descriptive name.
  3. Copy your key immediately (it won’t be shown again).
  4. Use the key in your applications to access IdeaBase APIs.

Keep your API keys secure and rotate them periodically. Revoke any keys you no longer need.

Notification Preferences

Control how IdeaBase communicates with you:

  • Email notifications for matches and messages.
  • In-app notifications for comments and upvotes.
  • Weekly digests summarizing your activity.

Adjust these settings in Settings > Notifications to match your preferences.

Deleting Your Account

If you need to leave IdeaBase:

  1. Go to Settings > Account.
  2. Click Delete Account.
  3. Confirm your decision.

Note: Account deletion is permanent and removes all your ideas, comments, and data.

  • How do I update my profile?

  • What are API keys used for?

    API keys allow you to access IdeaBase programmatically. Use them for integrations or building on top of the platform.

  • How do I enable two-factor authentication?
