Creating Your First Idea

To create a new idea in IdeaBase:

  1. Navigate to My Ideas from the sidebar.
  2. Click the New Idea button.
  3. Enter a title that captures the essence of your idea.
  4. Add a description with more details about the concept.
  5. Save your idea to add it to your collection.

Your idea starts in the “Evaluating” status by default, giving you time to flesh it out before deciding whether to pursue it.

Organizing with Collections

Collections help you group related ideas together:

  1. In the sidebar, click New Collection.
  2. Give your collection a name and choose a color.
  3. Drag ideas into the collection, or use the collection dropdown when editing an idea.

Use collections to organize ideas by project, category, or priority level.

Using Tags

Tags provide another layer of organization:

  • Add tags when creating or editing an idea.
  • Filter your ideas by clicking on tags in the sidebar.
  • Use consistent tag names to keep things organized.

Understanding the Idea Lifecycle

Ideas progress through different statuses:

PursuingYou’ve decided to actively work on this idea
CompletedThe idea has been successfully executed
PassedYou’ve decided not to pursue this idea for now
AbandonedYou’ve stopped working on this idea

Change an idea’s status from the idea detail view to track your progress.

Visibility Settings

Control who can see your ideas:

  • Private: Only you can see the idea.
  • Unlisted: Anyone with the direct link can view it.
  • Public: The idea appears in the Discover feed for all users.

To change visibility, edit the idea and select your preferred setting. Public ideas can receive upvotes and comments from the community.

  • How do I create a new idea?
